Thursday 26 November 2015

Bit of a topsy turvy couple of weeks and only managed a few rows of my colourful granny blanket. It's really beautiful. Will have to try and take a photo that does it justice. Not even half way to finishing yet tho.
One thing I have done a couple of times in the last week is teach. I worked as a part time anatomy and physiology tutor for seven years until march this year. Have a client who needs to take an exam on Sunday and we did a couple of one to ones. Loved it. Forgot how much I really enjoyed it.

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree

Have to admit whilst I am enjoying the crochet, I really can't get my head round Christmas. It is still early? 6 weeks tomorrow still to go. Or is it this very mild weather?

The youngest is off with the school tomorrow to an outdoor activity centre. With the eldest back at uni I will be sonless.

Only one more day to go and five clients....

Bits and Baubles

Today's christmassy effort. Baubles for my banner.

Christmas is coming and the crochet has to start...

Am not a great fan of starting Christmas too early but crochet does need to be started if wanting to display in time for Christmas.
So here are my first few offerings... I'm thinking of bunting...

Some snowflakes in white and sparkly silver and angel's.

I haven't done much to my stripy blanket this week as an old RSI problem reared its head after a punishing day of work so i produced these small Christmas decorations instead.
More to follow as I crochet them.
Is anyone else crocheting for Christmas?

The Three Musketeers

Today has been a brilliant day. Last night about 9.30pm my eldest came back from uni for the weekend. It's been 6 weeks since I've seen him. The longest time I've ever been away from him.
Hair cuts and catching up with grand parents took up the morning but this afternoon we went to football. I've been taking the boys for 8/9 years. It's what we have always done together and kept us close. It's been odd not having him at the last two games. Today we were all together again and we watched a win against Swansea. Superb. A lovely afternoon with both my boys and a win at football. Life is perfect.

Sometimes it's just small things which are the biggest and best, memories mean so much xx

Bobs blanket

Decided to have a break today from the stripy blanket and produced a few more squares and stitched up what I have so far on Bobs little blanket.

The weather was downpour depressing this morning and with no clients booked in, I even more depressingly did some cleaning. Now whilst I hate housework passionately, I always feel good when I've finished cleaning. The oven and washing machine are looking their sparkly selves again.... Well as sparkly as an oven and washing machine can look.
It also meant I didn't feel guilty hitting the crochet for a while.

And it was really lovely sitting here crocheting watching the blue tit's and great tit's feeding from our coconut and peanut feeders out in the garden.

Monday 2 November 2015

Into November already!

A very foggy morning here in Norwich. With spooky cobwebs all over the garden

In between crocheting my stripy blanket, I'm also making small squares from left over yarn. I'm going to put them all together eventually to make a small blanket for Bad Bob for Christmas. If I put his name on it, do you think there is any chance he will lay on and pad his blanket rather than my other ones?

Will keep you updated with progress. Just had a client cancel so am going to crack on.... Not with housework (how dreadfully dull) but with my stripy blanket.
Have a lovely Monday. Hope it's not the start of a very long week x

Stripy granny blanket progress

As this blog is supposed to be mainly about crochet, here is a couple of pics of how well my blanket is progressing.
So far I've crocheted 44 rows. Still quite a way to go. Am probably only a quarter of the way there... If that.

One pic shows the blanket folded in quarter and the other in half. It's too wide to do a full length.

And the pumpkin is carved!

Well done Ben!

Happy Halloween!

We are all decorated for Halloween and Ben did a chocolate hunt this morning. I hid mini Mars bars and milky way round the room.
We couldn't struggled to find the last Mars bar (I can never remember hiding places for long) but good job we found it. It was hidden in the toaster. Can you imagine what would have happened if we hadn't found it. Ewww.
You can never be too old for chocolate hunts or pumpkin carving. We were out bright and early this mooring and bought this pumpkin off Norwich market. Ben literally struggled back to the car with it. It's a heavy one!

Doesn't seem very spooky today. The sun is shining through the French doors. I even put towels out on the line. You don't get days like this very often on Halloween.
Perhaps it will seem spookier tonight when the pumpkin is carved, and all lit up in the dark.....

Friday 30 October 2015

From sunshine to showers
What a difference a day can make! Horrible weather today. Bob is staying determinedly asleep on the sofa. It's definitely not cat weather.

At least I don't have to go out to later this afternoon.

Whatever you are doing this weekend, have a fabulously spooky time and don't forget your broomsticks!

Thursday 29 October 2015

Oh my second post of the day. I thought I would show you the completed scarf from an earlier post.

Although they look quite delicate, they are very warm.

But not as warm as i hope my new blanket will be. Am making it based on a design from Attic24. Thank you Lucy!
A granny stripe blanket in bright colours.
This is my progress so far

Most of the colours are style craft double knit which I purchased from the wool warehouse.
But I'm sitting here making a blanket with the sun streaming through the French doors. It's a lovely autumn day.

Picture from a corner of my garden with the sunlight warming it up

Although Bad Bob is enjoying sleeping on an armchair as usual.

As promised, here is my beanie hat... Or I should say hats as have now made two. The grey one is slightly bigger than the brown but both are lovely and warm

Sunday 25 October 2015

Well it's been 4 weeks since I dropped my son off at uni. The longest I've ever gone without seeing him. Today he's gone on a field trip to the lake district. Hope he has a great time.

I've made a few scarves since the last post but can't put them on here as one is s birthday present and two are Christmas presents... Yes I'm that organised!

Today I made a beanie hat. Really simple to make. I'll take a photo and upload it later.

Am hoping to try and get a couple of things made this week. Try a few different things. It's half term week so I should have a bit extra time. No school lifts to do!

Today we put the garden furniture away. Sad moment. Means summer is definitely over and winter is on its way. It also got dark at 5pm this evening. Cold, short days ahead now. And the run up to Christmas ahead. Still two months to go but you wouldn't think it if you went into the shops.

Hope everyone had a good weekend xx

Sunday 18 October 2015

Well I am have now finished my third daisy design scarf. They are so quick and easy to do. The one I've just finished is for a friends birthday. Am going to do a couple for Christmas presents as well.

Have actually started my Christmas shopping. I try to get bird and pieces as I see them. I don't like leaving it until the last minute. With my job I'm always busy just before Christmas. A bit like hair dressers. People want their hair to look nice and to feel in good shape. No bad backs allowed to spoil the day!!

Monday 12 October 2015

Well I've near enough finished the poncho
Quite pleased with it for a first attempt.

I got slightly way laid at the weekend when I had the inspiration to do a scarf. I'd seen a blanket but without any real instructions on how to do the design so I worked a similar one for myself
What do you think ?

It's quite delicate. And only took me a few hours over the weekend to do. Sort of a daisy design and in Norwich city fc colours lol.
Today I started a copy but in different colours.
Haven't finished or put it together yet but here are the first few that I've made this morning.

The four on the right I've stream pressed but the other six are still to be done. You can see the difference steaming makes. Edges uncurl but also it makes the wool so much softer to touch.

Right I better abandon my crochet for the day. I have clients in this evening. Working does get in the way at times ha ha

Thursday 8 October 2015

Yes the weather is looking much better today.... I can see the sun starting to peak through already and its not quite 8am. In true Brit style my washing is already on the line.

So far today I've found a TV retailer near sons uni and given said son directions to it. The powers of Google!

Last night I added the last square to my poncho and finished the neck but still have some sewing up to do. I may add a small scarf to the design as well.... Watch this space.

Wednesday 7 October 2015

Mmm I hope the weather is better where you are. Here in Norwich it's miserable. Grey clouds and dismal although the rain has stopped for the moment. Where has the lovely sun gone ?

Anyway I have a quiet day with clients only coming in this morning so... I can crack on with my poncho. Got quite a way with crocheting and sewing it up on Sunday but still a way to go. Need some more squares. Here's a sneak preview of work so far

Am loving the colours. And it feels thick so will be nice and warm when finished. I used petrol plum and parchment from style craft yarns.
Just noticed the time... Youngest (15) will be nagging me soon as time to do school run
Catch you later 😁

Monday 5 October 2015

Well I really am a rubbish blogger. I think the summer came (or I think it did) and I prefer to be outside. Plus my son got into uni of choice so it's been a bit mad for the last few weeks. So many forms to fill in and things to buy and trying to my head round him leaving! Life is just going to be different from now on.

But I am back to crocheting again. I think I prefer the feel of wool when my hands are cooler. Sum and wool doesn't always work for me. I've just about finished the shawl I was doing (about time!!) and I'm half way through a poncho. Will put pics on later.

Also have bought some pom pom makers and with my younger son we put together the equivalent of a pretty bow for my mums birthday present tomorrow. Well he helped as he ruined the bright pink one throwing and twirling it around the room. He made another.

You can just see it in the pics although thankfully does look a bit better than my photos suggest.

Saturday 13 June 2015

Have been a bit quiet for a while. There has been a lot going on. A win against the scum and then beating Middlesbrough at Wembley. Now that was a day to remember!

I have been busy in between all this football doing some crochet. I'm attempting my first shawl. I found this off Pinterest but unfortunately the instructions were in French and my school girl French just wasn't good enough. Even more unfortunately Google translate didn't help either. Couldn't quite figure where flanges came into it ha ha.

Anyway determination and looking hard at the pics provided and I've now finished all 19 star flowers. Just need to steam press them and join together. Stream pressing... Now that will be a joy... Or maybe not.... Perhaps that's why they are still sitting beside me and I don't quite have a shawl yet.
But here is a pic so far...

Saturday 9 May 2015

Well it's all tense in our house today especially as the scum have just equalised before half time. Come on you yellows!

Friday 1 May 2015

Ooh today I produced a triangle. He's just small at the moment and all on his own but hopefully later he will grow bigger and make some friends. Then I may have some colourful bunting to hang up 😀

Well yesterday was a very busy day. I decided a while ago to start lessons in crochet. My initial lesson that I had was really not very good and having taught in other areas for a while it got me thinking that it could be a new venture and something that I and hopefully my new clients would enjoy. Learning crochet over a cup of tea... What better way to while away an hour... Or two maybe.

So yesterday I bit the bullet and set up a website and Facebook page. If any one reading this blog who lives in the Norfolk area would like to learn the basics of crochet please click on the link below:

Wednesday 29 April 2015

I've just realised... Being new to all of this that I've never really introduced myself.
My name is Roz and it would be lovely to say hello.
Apart from falling in love with crochet, I spend my working days as a sports massage therapist. You wouldn't believe how much crochet I can get done between clients ! I also do reflexology and some other complementary therapies.

I have two sons A (17 and hoping to go off to uni this year) and B (15 and i believe addicted to his iPad!)
We are all Norwich city football fans and love going to the home games. Tense times at the moment... Who will we get in the play offs.... Please don't let it be Ipswich.

Oh and last but not least I have a cat called bad Bob.
slightly mad, annoying but we love him
😁

Im just adding a photo of two bags I've made recently as well.

Am a bit of a bag lady...I have probably 100 bags but these are the first two I've made myself. Am quite chuffed. I even designed the bottom one myself... Go me! Lol

I've been a bit busy over the last couple of weeks making a blanket. Haven't quite finished it but this is it so far....

Just need to finish some squares round the edge and then find a nice edging for it. Quite a nice quick blanket to make and quite pretty.

I did break off for a day to make my partner some dark green fingerless gloves. I know the weather is warmer but he likes to go fishing early in the morning when it's still a bit nippy.

Sunday 8 March 2015

Finished my scarf for mum for mother's day!

Also finished the last colour on my scarf as well. It's been a good day!

Same ripple wave effect stitch but very different colours

Saturday 7 March 2015

I have had a busy week both with work and crochet. Thankfully working from home gives me time between clients. This week I managed to complete my ripple blanket and start two ripple scarves. One for myself (in red green orange brown colours that the boys call my rastafarian scarf) and one in pink, pink fleck and white fleck for my mum for mother's day. Will try and post pics of all three when I've finished.

Saturday 28 February 2015

This is my first blog ever!
I started to crochet in September 2014, just under 6 months ago after a one hour lesson and fell in love with it.
So I thought I would create a blog to chart my progress as I continue learning new stitches and create new projects.
